NSW Club Wrap- Up from the weekend
Last Weekend the Hunter Valley played host to the NSW Blo-Kart Club members with their amazing wind powered land yachts.
Due to a lack of wind Saturday, members and visitors held a "Meet & Greet" picnic at Grahamstown Dam, with only a gentle breeze for the kids to enjoy......
...But Sunday was a different story - a bustling 30knot Westerly wind rolled in overnight, with gusts of up to 40 knots recorded on the day meant that these eager land sailors were off and racing at the Birubi end of Stockton Beach. With over 500 of these compact land sailing karts now in Australia and approx 8000 worldwide - "Blo-Karting" is fast becoming  Australia's number #1 land sailing sport.
"Blo-karts" only weigh 29kgs and fold up into bag that fits neatly into the boot of most cars for easy transport.
This event attracted land sailors from as far south as Illawarra, Metro Sydney, and an outback land sailor from Bourke. The blokarts sailing created a colorful spectacle on the picture perfect Stockton Beach.

The "Hunter Hawks",  although out numbered, held their own, and race scores were a draw with the "Sydney Squadron".

The NSW Blokart Club is a family friendly oriented club looking to create awareness of the sport, and increase its network of membership state-wide. The club also hopes to conduct charity sailing events in the future.....Club members and visitors alike, impressed with the weekends' event, all went home wearing the "Blokart Grin" after a Fun day of racing at the north end of Stockton Beach, Port Stephens.

Crowdy Head Round up

Howdy all, just thought i would let you know how it went.
Well, a fantastic weekend was had at Crowdy Heads, unsure if any of you have been there but it truely is a beautiful part of the Central Coast,
We had 12 karts sailing on Saturday and 9 on Sunday, Due to the SE wind and high seas all sailing was done in a new subdivision at Harrington which is 7 km from Crowdy, awesome sailing on the new bitumin with no houses and 2 conveniantly placed roundabout to complete a course.
Light winds Sat morning had a few 5.5m sails out and a few kids in the karts aswell, by 1pm the wind had picked up to a steady 15 knots + which saw the kids out of the karts and 4.0m and 3.0m sails on, we decided to put a State of Origin race series in place with a total of 4 races held that afternoon,                                                                Score Qld 4 - NSW - 0                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  Dinner Dinner that night made for a fair bit of banter betwen all, Sunday mornings lighter winds allowed for a few kids races and then a further 3 State races, we decided to shorten the course to give NSW a bit of a chance to look half decent but to no avail,                                                                                           Score Qld - 3 - NSW - 0

The Crowdy Head Classic is underway with full honors for 08 going to Qld - 7 - 0

I'm sure there will be a different story to tell next year, some good laughs and fun had by all.
As said a fantastic weekend had with great company and I must give a special thanks to Danny & Caroline Hall for inviting us all to such a beautiful place.

Results from Olivers Lake Races
WOW WOW WOW Where do i begin what a fantastic weekend, what fantastic weather, what fantastic winds, what a fantastic Blokarting venue, what fantastic people!!!! We arrived in Horsham at 10.30am was able to drop into and get our cabin early at Wimmera Lakes Caravan Park quickly off loaded some gear then headed out some 30kms to OLIVERS LAKE(great directions Rod spot on),after turning onto Duchembegarra Road i was blown away by the sight of the lake shimmering like a mirage in the sun shine with a couple of Blokarters already flying around the lake i could not wait to have my turn. We quickly set up the club trailer had a greet and meet with Rod who is the Horsham local.A pilots breifing and introduction was called with a brief overview of the week end by Ben,out onto to the lake for the first time was a little unerving for me having not sailed on one before, looked real firm from the distance but due to 35mm of rain which fell a week out from the event just under the crust was like a skid pan in places of the lake. A triangle type course was set at the middle of the southern end of the lake the wind gods playing their part also with a constant 10knts of breeze and some nice gusts to about 14/15knts kept everyone entertained, all the 5.5m rigs had disappeared by the start of the 2nd race. Due to numbers we only ran production and performance with no weight restrictions five races we run on Saturday with a very mixed bag of results,Greg Divine was the very dominate in production with four bullets and a DNS but was pushed hard by every one in the fleet who were all in a podium position a some stage of the racing.Performance division was very close all day long with Jon G just coming out on top. After five races it was agreed to end the days proceedure and recover by the pool giving people time to freshen up for the evening. Evening tea was organised by Rod at the Horsham Sports & Comm Club followed by lots of conversations of the days racing and everyones backgrounds etc. Sunday dawned and we were greeted with more sun and more winds where we proceeded to knock over nine races and still have time have a photo and film shoot with the local papers and tv film crew.Another mixed bag of results for the day with production class getting very willing and a couple of wheel to wheel nudges in the clinches, the most interesting set of results was with Rod Jenkinson who started the weekend on a production kart with some average results to setting up on Sunday with a 5.5m rig and big foot balloon wheels where he proceeded to consistantly lead the whole fleet home unbelievable or not!!!!!!!!!! Sunday evening came and the crew set up the camp at the caravan park where we had a bbq and proceeded to watch the tennis from the back of Gregs camping trailer whilst watching satalights tracking the crystal clear night. Monday travelled to the lake no wind with very lame forecast decided to have coffees totalled up the results and had presentation before most drifted off home. Results Production 1st Greg Divine (melbourne blokart club) 2nd Mark U (horsham blokart centre) 3rd Rugby McClean(melbourne blokart club) Performance 1st Ben Lazzar (melbourne blokart club) 2nd Jon G (ballarat blokart centre) 3rd Graham O (melbourne blokart club) HIGHEST WIND 16.2KNTS HIGHEST TEMP 37.6 DEGREES(ON LAKE) FASTEST SPEED 69.1KMH In closing i would like to thank all those who did their little bits to organise and help run this event with out you guys and girls it would not have happened,we (MBC and Horsham Blokart Centre) would like to make this an annual event,so your comments and thoughts to times and dates would be appreciated. Regards Graham Oliver MBC committee.

2008-04-29 - Ivanpah.....USA
This event is designed to coincide with a kite buggy event on a dry lake in Nevada, USA. It will be held from 29 March 2008 to 3 April 2008. Initially, the event was intended as just a fun sail for the locals. It has turned out to be a major event with teams from seven countries planning on attending. Check www.classactionracing.com for details including the Notice of Race and Entry Form. Located at the town of Primm, the lake stretches for miles with plenty of room for us and the kite buggies. It is about 60km from Las Vegas, so no problems finding something to do if the wind doesn’t blow. Due to the size of the lake, there are opportunities for long distance racing that we don’t have here. If you have a GPS that provides positional information (not just speed and distance), bring it along - you will need it for the Rally event. The event organisers have done a deal with the Buffalo Bill casino for accommodation. The Notice of Race has details on how to book. If you stay for the six days of the event, it will cost around A$350 for a room for the entire duration. If you want to make a holiday of it, you can check out the Hoover Dam or get a flight from Las Vegas to the western end of the Grand Canyon . You are a day’s drive or short flight from Los Angeles, Disneyland (for the kids, of course), Hollywood, and a host of other sights. Qantas has a special baggage policy for journeys to the US. You are allowed up to 2 pieces of luggage of up to 32kg each provided they meet certain size limits. Sporting equipment is an exception to the size limit rule, and a blokart bag is acceptable provided it is kept strictly to the 32kg limit. You must tell them that you are carrying your blokart when you book the ticket so they can place a note on the ticket to get you through the check-in. Note that although Virgin Blue/Pacific Blue have ‘blokart-friendly’ baggage rules, they do not fly to the US.
